The Bay of Islands averages 2000 sun hours per annum with an average summer temperature of 24 degrees Celsius. Winter temperatures seldom drop below14 degrees and with and average annual rainfall of 1700mm this giver the region a lush sub-tropical appearance. The area around Kerikeri is known as the Cradle of the Nation boasting New Zealand oldest stone building (The Stone Store, 1835) and the oldest wooden house (Kemp House, 1822). Just down the road from Waipuna Parklands Estate are the 'Retreat' of the late Rev Henry Williams, the Old Pakaraka Store and Historic Church pictured at the top of this page.
